# Consumer Groups

> Consumer Groups define which consumers receive communications.

Groups are dynamic filters, not static lists.
Groups may be based on:

* Account status
* Placement dates
* Sub-Accounts
* Import files
* Custom filters

## Key Rule

Groups must be recalculated each time a campaign runs.
