Developer Rule
Active Payment Plans allow consumers to manage negotiated payment plans directly within the EcoPortal.
The purpose of Active Payment Plans is to provide consumers with self-service tools designed to prevent payment plan default and improve successful plan completion.
Payment schedules are managed within the YouNegotiate platform and are not hosted by merchant processors.
Payments are processed through Basis Theory and the participating organization’s merchant processor only when payment events occur.

Payment Plan Overview
Active Payment Plans display:
- Remaining Balance
- Payment Amount
- Next Payment Date
- Payment Frequency

Purpose:
Provide consumers with a clear view of their active payment obligations.
Payment Plan Management
Consumers may:
- Pay Off Remaining Balance
- Make a Payment
- Make a Partial Payment
- Change Payment Method
- Cancel Plan
Purpose:
Allow consumers to actively manage payment plan performance.
Payment Frequency Management
Consumers may change payment frequency between:
- Weekly
- Bi-Weekly
- Monthly
When payment frequency changes:
- Remaining payment schedule recalculates automatically
- Future payment dates update automatically
- BillPay Calendar updates automatically
Purpose:
Allow consumers to align payment schedules with changing financial circumstances.
Payment Date Management
Consumers may change an upcoming payment date.
Business Rule:
Payment dates may be changed up to two days before the scheduled payment date.
When a payment date changes:
- Payment schedule updates automatically
- BillPay Calendar updates automatically
Purpose:
Reduce avoidable payment failures.
Skip Payment Rule
Consumers may skip an eligible payment.
When a payment is skipped:
- The skipped payment is moved to the end of the payment plan
- Remaining payment schedule updates automatically
- BillPay Calendar updates automatically
Purpose:
Provide temporary payment flexibility while preserving the payment plan.
BillPay Gift Rule
Active Payment Plans may display:
- BillPay Gift Link
- BillPay Gift QR Code
Contributors may apply payments toward:
- Remaining Plan Balance
- Upcoming Scheduled Payments
When applying payments toward scheduled payments, contributors may choose to apply funds to:
- The Next Payment Due
- Multiple Upcoming Payments
- Future Payments at the End of the Plan
Examples:
- A 300contributionona100 monthly payment plan may satisfy the next three scheduled payments
or
- The contribution may be applied to the final three scheduled payments on the plan
Purpose:
Allow contributors to support payment plan completion while providing flexibility in how contributions are applied.
Additional Payment Plan Rules
Failed Payment Rule
If a scheduled payment fails, the platform continues attempting payment processing until the next scheduled payment date.
Consumers may update payment methods or resolve the failed payment at any time.
If the failed payment remains unresolved one day before the next scheduled payment date:
- The failed payment is automatically skipped
- The failed payment is moved to the end of the payment plan
- The payment schedule updates automatically
- The BillPay Calendar updates automatically
Purpose:
Prevent avoidable payment plan defaults caused by temporary payment issues.
Temporary Hold Rule
Consumers may place a payment plan on temporary hold by selecting:
- Hold Start Date
- Hold End Date
During the hold period:
- Scheduled payments are suspended
- Payment reminders are suspended
- BillPay Calendar updates automatically
At the end of the hold period:
- The hold is automatically removed
- Scheduled payments resume automatically
Purpose:
Provide temporary payment relief without requiring cancellation of the payment plan.
Payment Processing Rule
Payment schedules are managed within the YouNegotiate platform.
Payment schedules must not be hosted by merchant processors.
Payments are transmitted for processing only when payment events occur.
Purpose:
Maintain consumer flexibility and allow real-time payment plan management.
Key Rule
Active Payment Plans must provide consumers with tools that reduce payment failures, prevent default, and improve successful plan completion.
All payment schedule changes must dynamically update the payment plan and BillPay Calendar.
Final Developer Rule
Active Payment Plans are consumer-managed payment agreements.
Consumers may manage payment methods, payment schedules, payment frequency, payment dates, temporary holds, skipped payments, payoff activity, and contribution activity without contacting participating organizations.
